In Our Own Spaces is a community hosted artist salon series based in Los Angeles.
In Our Own Spaces was founded in 2023 by Lauren Reynolds and Adi Kwiatek with the goal of reimagining the artist’s relationship to viewership—and the viewer’s relationship to the art object. Our salon series creates a space to share your work and yourself, free from the anxiety-inducing pressures of capital, career ambitions, networking, and all that has diluted the simple pleasure of sharing what you’re working on and exploring. Our only aim is to foster connection and meaningful engagement with art.
We meet bi-monthly for a salon guided by a theme that shapes both the work shared and the group discussion. Past themes have included Bring a Work in Progress, Embracing the Other, Bring the Work You Hate, The Worlds Within Us,and more. A key aspect of In Our Own Spaces is that each salon is hosted by a different community member. The ethos of IOOS centers on the idea that, within our own spaces, we can create “third spaces” for the community—drawing from the organizers' long-standing tradition of hosting. This approach also allows the salon to move throughout the city, increasing accessibility. Past salons have taken place in West Hollywood, Hollywood, South Central, Highland Park, and beyond.
If you’d like to attend an upcoming salon, please fill out our Join form, and we’ll add you to our communications. All are welcome.
