If our present moment engagement gives form to social and creative practices, how has the creative practice become bastardized by the “spectacle” of our modern script? Can we strategize artistic and community practices to engage more meaning in our lives and in society? Join us in exploring how we free ourselves from this script to allow space for fugitive evolution.

David Wojnarowicz was an American painter, photographer, writer, filmmaker, performance artist, and activist prominent in the East Village art scene. We will be playing his 1989 audio tape journals, Cross Country in which David shares his dreams, fear of death, experience with AIDS, sex, and his environment during two separate road trips he took to the American Southwest.

Come investigate the pervasiveness of our alienation from ourselves, others, and the earth. How do we build bridges of connection? Is art one of those bridges? As artists, how do we root our practice in connection?

Thomas Jerome Newton (David Bowie) is an alien who has come to Earth in search of water to save his home planet. Thomas uses his knowledge of advanced technology to create profitable inventions, developing a method to transport water. Just as he is ready to leave Earth, Thomas is intercepted by the U.S. government, and his entire plan is threatened. We are excited to discuss the film’s existential and surreal themes!
